Queensway Terrace North Community Association Spring Update

Spring has finally arrived in our beautiful community and soon we'll be enjoying those tulips and other spring flowers so many of you have planted. This article was written before we knew the full affect of the city budget. We do know the outdoor pool at Frank Ryan Park will stay open. We don't know if the skating rink boards will continue to be delivered and picked up or if our approved second tree planting will go ahead or not. At our last Board meeting, your community association decided a Spring Clean-up was going ahead with or without the city's participation. Watch for details in The News and our spring flyer. Last year's turnout was super. The response to the rezoning application for 931 Pinecrest Rd. has been poor. The owner wants to rezone it to a fourplex from a duplex. To sign our petition against the rezoning call me at 820-2447 or write us at our new email address QTN@monisys.ca. Our community is threatened by the Official Plan. Help your community by helping us. The long abandoned, decrepit house at 810 Norton Avenue made it into the Ottawa Sun. What an embarrassment to our community let alone the city. Unfortunately, what didn't make it to the story is our attempt to work with Habitat for Humanity to replace it with a new home. Although a small and awkward lot, with everyone's co-operation we may be able to reintroduce a functional new home to the community. The capital budget includes us this year. There will be resurfacing work on Moncton Rd. from Kelly Ave. to Mossdale St. Also, Mossdale from Moncton to Clarenda St. Finally, Clarenda St. from the dead end to Alpine Ave. No other capital budget money for anything is targeted for our community that we can find. We asked city staff through Coun. Cullen to provide a report on all streets within Queensway Terrace North. An update was just received for Connaught Ave. It was last resurfaced in 1989 and a pavement assessment made in 2003. It will be at least five years at the earliest before resurfacing is considered. A drainage study is planned in the future and, if feasible, modifications to the excessive grading will take place at the same time the street is resurfaced. Our new Queensway Terrace North Community Association website will be launched shortly. Watch for our story coming soon in The News. |
