A Happy New Year from the Queensway Terrace North Community Association. If you live within the boundary of the Western Transitway, Pinecrest Road, Carling Avenue and the 417, then you reside within our Community Association area. Last year ended on a high note. With the combined efforts of residents and your association, 810 Norton Avenue was finally torn down on December 21. This city-owned residence made it to the top 20 eyesore list for Ottawa created by a local television station. The main rink at Frank Ryan Park opened well ahead of Christmas and feedback from residents is very positive. Frankly, its in great shape thanks to our volunteer team led by Joseph Trus. Put on your skates and enjoy our local park this winter. Our Winter Carnival on Saturday January 8 was a huge success. Almost 400 residents came out to enjoy free horsedrawn sleighrides, the bonfire, skating, tobogganing, hot chocolate and more...the kids will loved it! This has been one very busy year. We fought and lost the rezoning applications for the conversions of 847 Ivanhoe Ave. and 931 Pinecrest Rd to triplexes thanks to the Official Plan and a city council that has lost touch with communities like ours. Our residents have made it clear that over-intensification will not be tolerated. Hopefully the upcoming city Interim Control Bylaw and the Neighbourhood Planning Study for 2005 will help our community. Our second tree planting project and Spring clean-up were a success thanks to our community-minded residents pitching in. The launching of our QTN.ca website has been a huge success. Feedback, email volume and content have been a big hit. Our volunteer webmaster, Phil Carrillo, has done an outstanding job. Check it out for yourself. Your association was involved with speed enforcement on Pinecrest Rd., police patrolling of Frank Ryan Park, arson and too many minor issues to mention within this alotted space. For complete details check the website. It now looks like 2005 will be a busy one for your new board of directors. Watch for the Spring update in The News. |
