Goodbye to 810 Norton Avenue! Finally, on Tuesday December 21, 2004, this dilapidated city-owned house was torn down. This was a Christmas present for our residents on Norton Avenue who witnessed the demise of this property. What an embarrassment to our community. It made it to the top 20 eyesore list contest held by the Ottawa Citizen newspaper last fall. The house was expropriated because it was too close to the curb when Carling Avenue was widened in the early 1980s. It was considered too dangerous for the homeowners to stay in it. Amazingly, the city then used it for short-term housing and let it fall into disrepair until unusable. The lot has been turned over to the City of Ottawas Social Housing Department. |
