How to keep Frank Ryan Park happy!

Dear Neighbours:

Recently I was approached by the Queensway Terrace North Community Association concerned about late night noise, rowdyism and vandalism in Frank Ryan Park. While City staff and police will monitor the situation, part of the solution involves you, the neighbourhood.

Here's how:

  • Parks are people places, and are open for people to use them and "hang out' and play - but there are rules.

  • Parks are open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and are closed to the public after 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.    If there are groups "hanging out" in the park after 11 p.m. or making noise after 11 p.m. please call 580-2400 for Bylaw Enforcement (they are open to 2 a.m. - leave a voice-mail).    Do not expect immediate service, but all calls will be investigated.

  • Dogs are not allowed to run free in parks, and poop must be scooped.    If there are problems, please report them to Animal Control at 580-2400.    Do not expect immediate service, but if the dog owner is known, please give the address to the Animal Control Officer who will make a call and (gently) remind people of the rules (and check for up-to-date dog tags).

  • Vehicles (other than authorized vehicles) are not allowed in parks.    If people are driving in or parking in the park, please call Bylaw Enforcement at 580-2400 to report.

  • Fires are not allowed in parks.    If there is a fire, please call the Fire Department at 580-2860 (or 9-1-1 if there is an emergency).

  • Vandalism is not allowed and should be reported to 580-2400.

  • Drugs and alcohol are not allowed to be consumed in parks.    If there is clear evidence of active drug use or consumption of alcohol (i.e. people drinking or smoking up) then call the Police at 230-6211.    The Police will respond according to priority calls, which may not be immediate, but all calls are recorded.    If the problems persist, then the Police will step up surveillance.

The best thing is to get to know who uses the park - they are your neighbours or your neighbours' kids.    Be friendly - our parks are for all people to enjoy, so let's take care of them!
