The residents of Severn Avenue, which runs 2 blocks
parallel to Highway 417, complained to the Ministry of
Transportation about the high level of traffic noise on
the highway. The response from the Ministry was unacceptable,
as it claims there is nothing that can be done about this issue.
The association was not satisfied with this response, especially
in light of the plans to widen 417. Health and quality of life are
important to our residents.

Subject: Traffic Noise from 417 affecting Queensway Terrace North.
Dear Jim Watson,
I wish to draw your attention to an issue that was brought to our association’s attention just prior to our Annual General Meeting on November 21. Mark Taylor, who was in attendance, was made aware of this and I promised him our association would contact you for help.
The residents of Severn Avenue have complained to the Ministry of Transportation about the high noise level from traffic on the 417 just south of our community. I must say that I live two blocks south of Carling Avenue, approximately one kilometer from the 417, and noise from the 417 bothers me as well.
The Ministry’s response is frankly unacceptable. Noise projected beyond barriers for homes adjoining the 417 is something the Ministry is not prepared to accept responsibility for.
The health as well as quality of life impact on our community is of prime concern.
The Queensway Terrace North Community Association respectfully asks that a Noise Study within our whole community be conducted by an appropriate ministry to determine what the 417 noise levels are and if there are any health or quality of life implications.
If so, perhaps the Ministry of Transportation can use existing or new innovative methods to deal with it.
I have enclosed all pertinent documents received in this matter.
Regards,
Henry Swiech, President
Queensway Terrace North Community Association
