The familiar R1, R2, and R3 zones in QTN will soon disappear. More than a label change, the new neighbourhood zones (labelled N1 – N6) will allow for significant changes in what can be built on most lots in QTN, influencing what this area will look like in twenty years. The new zoning bylaw is a primary tool to implement intensification under directions in the Official Plan that was adopted in 2023. QTN is now designated an Inner Urban area, to become more like neighbourhoods close to downtown and less like a suburb. The plans for a large increase in population are also related to the new LRT stations in our area.
More information is available on the Zoning Project page of the Engage Ottawa website.
