Garage Sale Day June 1; Give Away Day June 2

Garage Sale Day, on Saturday, June 1 this year,  is a cooperative project with several neighborhoods in this area.  There will be many garage sales in this part of the city. That will draw more interest.  If you want to host a garage sale, register through    https://www.woodpark.ca/2024-woodpark-garage-sale.   Your location will be included in maps used by buyers.   QTNca will promote all sales through general signs, Facebook, and newsletter.  Make your own sign for your property.

Give Away Day, on Sunday, June 2, is a QTNca initiative.  If you have items you no longer use, or they did not sell, perhaps your neighbors can use them.  Put them on the curb and also check out what others may have put out.  Sharing items among neighbors saves money and reduces waste, which helps the environment we share.

Rain dates:  the following weekend, June 8 for Garage Sales and June 9 for Give Away Day.

Frank Ryan Fitness Park

Would you like to include physical exercise on your walk through the park?  Are you interested in outdoor fitness training? Or do you want a place to meet friends and stretch some muscles together?  If your answer is yes, the good news is that plans for adding a Fitness Park in Frank Ryan Park are moving forward.  This project will provide a no-cost way to stay healthy and have some fun right close to home.  All residents of all ages will be able to enjoy it, alone, in groups, or through clubs and training programs that will use the site.

QTNca has been awarded a City of Ottawa Major Capital Grant to pay for half the costs of installing a Fitness Park, complete with signage and instructions on how to make use of it. We have $100,000 in trust;  we need to match that with another $100,000 through grants or donations from other sources.  A team of volunteers has formed to lead this effort.  If you are interested in this, click below to check out the details.

Do you work for a company that makes donations to community projects that promote healthy living? Do you know of possible sources of funds for initiatives like this?   If you have ideas for sources of funding, please contact the Fitness Project team through the project website or send a message to qtncommunity@gmail.com. Your suggestions could make this a reality in QTN.

Yard SHare Program in QTN

Do you have a garden plot that you no longer want to use?

Would you like to grow some food but don’t have space for a garden?

A Yard Share could be just what you need!

The Yard Share program connects landowners with individuals or groups who are interested in using the land to grow plants, vegetables, or flowers. This initiative is a great way for landowners to make use of their yards or unused land while providing a valuable service to the community. It also provides an opportunity for those who don’t have the space to garden to grow their own produce or beautify the neighborhood with plants.

Yard Share programs are becoming increasingly popular in communities across the country to promote sustainability and community building.

If you’re a landowner with an unused yard or land, consider joining the QTN Yard Share program. You’ll be making a positive impact on your community and helping to create a more sustainable future.  Email us with the subject: Landowner!

And if you’re a gardener without a yard, don’t hesitate to join the QTN Yard Share programs to see how you can get involved. Email us with the subject: Gardener! qtncommunitygarden@gmail.com
