Ecology Ottawa QTN Tree Giveaway Event

Ecology Ottawa, in partnership with the Queensway Terrace North Community Association, will be co-hosting a tree giveaway event in our neighborhood.

Date: Saturday June 12, 2021
Location: Frank Ryan Park

Those interested must complete the mandatory pre-participation survey in order to opt-in to Ecology Ottawa’s Tree Program and be eligible to receive seedlings. Some personal information is collected in order for them to follow-up in a year’s time regarding the tree(s) you’ve planted. Though they are not asking which species you wish to plant, they do want to know how many seedlings you would like to collect, to a maximum of 25.

Ecology Ottawa’s Tree Giveaway Survey
Information on trees native to our region can be found here and here.

Here are some of the benefits you can expect from the planting of trees:

  • improvement in air quality
  • reduced energy costs due to cooler air
  • removal of harmful chemicals and release of oxygen
  • sequestering of carbon
  • improvement in water quality
  • urban beautification and stress relief
  • provision of fruits and nuts for urban wildlife and people
  • increased property value

Please note that this initiative is not limited to QTN. Many other communities are choosing to co-host tree giveaway events across the city. A calendar of these events can be found here. Feel free to share this information with anyone you think may be interested.
