QTN Giveaway Day – July 3

UPDATE: Due to heavy rain forecasts throughout the weekend, we’ll be moving the QTN Giveaway Day to Saturday July 3rd (rain date Sunday July 4th). We hope this gives everyone some extra time to declutter their homes.

Time to get rid of your unwanted items and turn them into treasures! The QTN Giveaway Day will take place on Saturday July 3rd (rain date Sunday July 4th).

Start decluttering your home and then place your gently-used items at the curb in front of your house on QTN Giveaway Day. Be sure to place a sign marked with the word ‘FREE’ to make it clear that they are free for the taking.

QTN Giveaway Guidelines:

  • Place items at the curb in front of your home.
  • Place stickers or signs on the items with the word ‘FREE.’
  • Ensure any items that you do not want taken are kept away from items placed at the curb.
  • At the end of the day, bring any uncollected items back into your home. Consider donating them to a local charity.

Treasure Hunting Etiquette:

  • Respect other people’s property; don’t walk on people’s lawns or gardens.
  • Ensure you adhere to social distancing and follow Ottawa Public Health guidelines
  • Take only the items marked ‘FREE’ and placed at the curb.
  • Don’t leave previously picked up items on the curb at other people’s property.

Not going to be around but have items to give?

Update on the QTN Storm Sewer Project including Traffic Implications

Councillor Kavanagh’s office has organized an update on the sewer project, which will include discussion of the road closures and associated traffic impacts. The meeting will take place on April 9th at 9:30 AM. If you are unable to attend, a recording will be made available afterward on the Bay Ward Bulleting which we will share with you as well.

Sewer and traffic update meeting
April 9th from 9:30 am to 10:15 am.
Link to register: https://www.baywardbulletin.ca/event/16786/

If possible, please submit your questions to qtncommunity@gmail.com by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 5th so staff have time to prepare more thorough answers.

Once the sewer project is completed, more discussion about traffic calming in that area will take place. The Councillor’s office is also looking at other methods for addressing concerns about pedestrian and cycling safety across QTN, such as the raised pedestrian crossovers that have been proposed as part of the construction of a sidewalk on Connaught Ave.

Volunteers needed: Lets beautify the Elmhurst paths on March 30 & April 2!

We are calling all walkers, dog walkers, bird watchers, and anyone who likes exploring the trails in QTN.

We need your help to spread mulch along the paths in Elmhurst Park and are asking that as you finish your day tomorrow (March 30), to meet us at the corner of Alpine and Henley starting at 3:00 PM. Please bring your mask, a shovel or a rake, and if possible – a wheelbarrow.

Update: due to the amount of paths to cover, we will also be working on Friday April 2nd start at 8:00 AM until around 12:00 PM.

Update: Brent from Pilon Landworks (http://www.pilonlandworks.ca/ thank you!) will be helping the community with a tractor and shuttling mulch to the park entrances as of 10:00 AM. On April 2nd if you are:
  • Starting at 8:00 AM? Meet us at Alpine entrance
  • Starting at 10:00 AM? Meet us at the Elmhurst entrances

Why the short notice?

As part of the City’s Queensway Terrace Storm Sewer Rehabilitation project, a number of trees had to be taken down along the north side of Henley Street to make way for new infrastructure (storm sewer and sidewalk). Our natural environment  committee, along with many of your neighbours, arranged to have the mulch from this work kept on site and the City approved its use for beautifying local paths! Since the trees have just been cut, it is important that we spread the mulch as soon as possible.

We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow!
